Wednesday, April 2nd at the Veprinac Social Home in the organisation the City of Opatija i Hubbazia Business Incubator a lecture was held for citizens entitled the Energy Community.
We thank the organizers for inviting us to present the DISCOVER project to citizens on this occasion and to show them all the benefits of joining energy communities. Also, citizens found out how we can help them with starting energy communities through DISCOVER.
On behalf of the organizers, the meeting was opened by Deputy Mayor Mrs. Kristina Đukić.
Davorka Medved, project manager presented the DISCOVER project. Damir Medved, president of the association Without Borders, which implements the project, spoke about the social and energy transition we are currently going through and how citizens and small communities can prepare for these changes.

Damir Juričić presented to the attendees what makes the economy of an energy community and what conditions must be met for each member of the community and the community as a whole to benefit from such association.

Senior Expert Associate for Informatics of the City of Opatija Francesca Gržinić Kuljanac said about this lecture:
“The City of Opatija and the Hubbazia Entrepreneurial Incubator, in the Veprinac Community Centre, in cooperation with the “Without Borders” Association, organized an extremely important lecture on energy communities, a concept that has the potential to transform the way we think about energy, sustainability and the future of our local communities.
We are in a time of great change. The picture of the world is changing rapidly – political superpowers are redefining their relations, and geopolitical games are increasingly affecting our daily lives. Conflicts, such as the war in Ukraine, and political changes in large countries, such as the US, further underline how important it is that we do not depend on energy coming from remote parts of the world. Energy from Russia, America or other continents is often subject to political pressure and unpredictable changes that can threaten our security and stability.
That is why it is crucial that we find ways to become energy self-sufficient. Energy communities provide precisely this opportunity – they allow us, as citizens, to take control of our energy production and consumption using renewable sources such as the sun and wind. By doing so, we not only ensure the stability of energy supply, but also actively contribute to the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change.
Renewables are not only a solution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – they are key to preserving natural resources, reducing air and water pollution and preserving biodiversity. By using solar energy and wind power, we can create a system that is not only sustainable but also fairer for all of us.
In the lecture, we were able to hear more about how energy communities work and what benefits they can bring to our local communities. This lecture was not only an opportunity to learn, but also a step towards creating a future in which we will be less dependent on global energy flows and more connected to our own resources.
This is an opportunity to reflect together on how we can shape a more sustainable future – for us, our children and the generations to come.”
We were pleased with the meeting because the citizens were interested in the topic and asked us a number of questions.
We are looking forward to continuing our cooperation with the City of Opatija and the Business Incubator Hubbazia and the upcoming lecture on the same topic, but this time for Opatija entrepreneurs.
